HtDesLightTM
HtDesLight ("Hidden Triple Des Light") is a software version of Semtek's Hidden Triple DESTM.
HTDes Light functions in a nearly identical way to our standard Hidden Triple DES, but does
so without needing a Cipher Security hardware Module to operate. HTDes Light is instead
an update to the point of sale devices' operating system that provides for encryption and tokenization.
HtDes Light is useful for rapid adoption initiatives where the terminal operating system of the
point of sale can be updated. This encryption methodology provides for an extremely strong level
of card data encryption, without any disruption to the point of sale front end.
Unlike standard encryption functionality, Semtek’s HtDesLight functions within the tamper-resistant
modules of existing point of sale devices that have achieved a validated state of physical security.
Encryption alone is not sufficient for security: The entire encryption process must take place inside
a physically secure environment in order to legitimately provide for end-to-end security.
Customers are using HTDes Light where they are facing a severe time crunch to secure their systems
(e.g.,PCI DSS compliance purposes) or have rejected conventional end-to-end encryption schemes as
too disruptive or too expensive.
HtDesLight is fully supported by Semtek's network side appliances and is requires no change to the
merchant’s existing point of sale or back-office software.
