Hidden Triple DESTM
Hidden Triple DES, or HTDesTM, is a proprietary encryption methodology based on Triple DES encryption. However, HTDes "hides" the encryption from the point of sale system so that the point of sale software does not know that the card data has been manipulated. This means that a typical point of sale software system can enjoy the benefits of fully encrypted card data, but without any modifications or disruption.
HTDes works in conjunction with a network-side appliance (resident at a gateway, processor, or within Semtek's data center) that keeps track of these encrypted card swipes and "normalizes" them so that authorizations can be executed properly.
HTDes was built primarily to eliminate card data from merchant's systems, providing merchants definitive protection against data theft without having to rebuild their systems and security protocols.
